Thiruvottiyur...The place i was born, The place i was brought up, The place where i have spend my entire life. Thiruvottiyur (Henceforth called as TVT) — is in the Northern Part of Chennai. 12 Kms from Parrys, lined-up along the Coastal area. Thiruvottiyurnu sonnale first strike aagardhu "Theradi Periya Kovil" dhaaan (Theradi veedhiyil kovilirundha Thiruvottiyurnu therinjukko). The Primary God of the Shrine is Thyagaraya Swamigal (a) Shiva. But it is famously known as “Vadivudai Amman Temple”. The Temple is spread out for acres having lot of spaces to sit and relax. "Kada theru" marakka mudiyma. Every time i goto the temple i end up buying cosmetic items from the kada theru (It is also very cheap). Also we have the famous "Pattinathar kovil", history says that Pattinathar, a divine poet, attained “mukthi” at TVT.
TVT is also blessed with very good educational institutions for all grades. Some of the Schools are run by the Sponsers of industries which strives to give better education to the Children of their Employees. To name a few, Vellayam Chettiyar Hr. Sec School and Murugappa Polytechnic run by Carborundam Universal industries, Nehru Matriculation Hr. Sec School Run by ITC groups, Ashok Leyland School run by Ashok Leyland group, Ramakrishna Polytechnic run by KCP Industries.
Murthy restaurant is one of the famous restaurant for sweets and savouries. Very good quality at affordable prices. Venkateswara fancy store, velile paaka chinna kadai madhiri irukkum, once we go inside, appa indha kadaile illadhe porule illenu thonum. I used to get gifts/cards for my friends/relatives from here only. Also there are good Hospitals like Apollo, Sugam and Priya Nursing home. For recreation, beach, park ellaam irukku.
Since all the major IT giants offices are located in the southern part of chennai(Thiruvanmiyur, Shollinganallur, Navalur and Sirusseri), the only problem i have in thiruvottiyur is the commutation. Other than this I am proud to be a TVT Resident
TVT is not posh as Anna nagar or Besant Nagar but if u want to get away from the bustles of City life and yet enjoy all the facilities of City, then u can reside in TVT. Almost all the time I have to defend Thiruvottiyur from my friends/colleagues tormenting Thiruvottiyur as Worst place to dwell. Atleast after reading this blog they will realize the "mahathuvam" of thiruvottiyur.. “God Bless Thiruvottiyur”

Thiruvottiyur ku ivlo alaga blog eludha unnala mattum dhan mudiyum. Yet I like the temple and been there every week when I's in India. Murthy restraunt is an unforgettable place as I'd my most cherised moment in that place. Brought loving memories of my childhood. Thanks Shalu.

nice xplanation.. me to spent half of my life at tvt reallly a great place with all the basic amenities. i like the temple very much and the powerful goddess vadivudaiamman.. the temple is 1200 years old and the largest temple in chennai..tvt is nice place for time pass especially theradi street.. me n my friend used to wander in that street often for time pass .. then small shops there to buy small things which give bliss and all those days are unforgettable.ya and shanmugam park to pass time by playing and with birds n pets
Hey good one ! i had created a page for thiruvottiyur in facebook and was collecting pictures and articles about tvt..came across ur blog, lol..its too difficult to make people in other parts of chennai understand how beautiful life in tvt is, i hope you still like tvt :)
